Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters Emilia-Romagna
The Emilia-Romagna
Section of A.I.T.I. was founded in the early 80s and today has 97 members,
broken down as follows: ordinary members (experienced professional translators
and/or interpreters) and trainee translators/interpreters (newly qualified
translators and interpreters lacking documented experience). Most translators
fall within the ‘technical translator’ bracket, probably reflecting
the particular market requirements in this highly industrialised region
of Italy, but members also include editorial translators and conference
and business interpreters. Aware that A.I.T.I. represents only a minority
of the translator and interpreter professionals currently operating
in the Region, the Board,
instated in April 2007, has set itself the objective of increasing membership
to reflect the real situation in the region. To this end, all activities
will be open to non-members as well as members. The range of languages
offered continues to grow. Our translators and interpreters cover the
most common European languages, i.e. Italian, English, French, German
and Spanish, but also Russian, Portuguese and Finnish. In the event
of other language requirements, the regional secretarial offices will
be happy to help find a colleague outside the region. The activity conducted
at regional level is of a highly operational and practical nature, aiming
to develop the professional reach and skills of its translator and interpreter
members as well as non-member colleagues, safeguard and enhance the
image of AITI conference interpreters and provide support for newly
qualified people entering the field of translation and interpretation.
The aim is to encourage frank, open exchange on work and working conditions
among all those involved to create a network of professionals who as
a result will be better equipped to meet the requirements of the translation
and interpretation market. Recent and future initiatives include:
- Seminars and professional update courses (see list under "Eventi e seminari");
- Continuous member update of regional events aimed at enhancing the profession;
- Dinners and get-togethers for regional members to share their professional problems and enjoy the friendship and solidarity that an association like ours offers;
- Participation in group discussions and meetings on topics of common interest.
